Dance as a Remedy

📅 Event Details:

  • Date: Every Monday, starting 2nd November until 14th December

  • Time: 6:15 PM - 7:15 PM

  • Venue: Botanic Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, D09 K5R6

I am not sure what about you, but I get overwhelmed when I wake up on Monday morning and all the plans and to-do lists for the week ahead are spinning in spirals inside my head.

The only medicine I have found is grounding back into the body and slowing down. Reconnecting to the inner centre and taking action from that place.

I am a Thomas Hanna Somatic Educator, and I have just started training in Gestalt therapy. This offering is going to be an alive, breathing and pulsating organism as I explore these two modalities and weave them together.

“Any somatic work is nervous system work,” my somatic teacher Lisa Petersen says. When we come to dance together, we co-regulate and strengthen our sense of social connection.

Research also suggests that dance can:

  • Support psychological well-being and help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

  • Offer a way to express and explore emotions.

  • Support physical health, balance and aspects of cognitive function, including memory.

Come as you are. Slow down, ground into your body, and discover what wants to move.

Guidance on the Dance Floor:

  • Stay nourished: Bring a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.

  • Connect with the ground: Dance barefoot, if comfortable, and feel the ground beneath your feet as you arrive in your body.

  • Wear what feels right: Choose comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.

  • A space beyond words: The dance floor is a space for movement, not conversation. Let your body speak.

  • Come as you are: This is a space to explore yourself, your emotions and your movement. There is no right or wrong way to dance. Trust what feels true for you in the moment.

  • Respect and presence: Honour your own process and the experiences of others. Move with awareness, care and respect for the shared space.
